Only the Good Curls: Shu Uemura Gold Eye Lash Curler

Nowadays, trivial as it may sound, I can name two reasons, which inspire me to try to be pretty, at least relative to my age. *LoL Firstly and most importantly ( another round of *LoL), you ought to know I'm obsessed a big fan of Korean Actors Dramas, and the lady leads. I covet their natural glowing beauty. And they don't wear much lips, rosy cheeks, thinly-lined eyes, perfectly curled lashes, and satiny white skin. That's pretty much workable with my current Asian Cosmetic hauls, except I don't naturally possess of such voluptuous and to-die-for lashes, and worse, I'm not a big fan of eye curlers, so I missed on the beauty of such. Sad. I'll tell you why in a bit. Secondly, I love the stunning transformation of Anne Hathaway's Andy Sachs in Devil Wears Prada. One pivotal moment is when she was introduced to Shu Uemura's eyelash curler. A couple of months back, I saw the movie for the nth time. It just dawned to me, oh my, I'm so outdated! So maybe I have to give lash curlers a second look. Timely, my good friend went for a trip to Japan, so included in my shopping list was the famed Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler. Yay! ;-D

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler in Gold
In the box, is the eye lash curler, and a piece of silicone refill pad.
I like it in Gold. ;-D
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler Product Features:
The award winning Shu Uemura eyelash curler is adored by makeup artists and celebrities worldwide. The curler's high performance and innovative design create a natural, beautiful curl with ease. The uniquely curved design allows it to fit various eye shapes and prevent it from pinching the skin. The shape of the silicone pad gives an elongated sweeping curl instead of the harsh crimped look. The durable hinge at the center of the curler regulates the amount of pressure applied to the lashes which ensures the utmost safety.
Here's how to achieve natural, beautiful eyelashes the Shu Uemura's way. ;-D
Exhibit 1: Curled lashes vs. my usual sparse lashes.
Exhibit 2: Natural curls with Shu Uemura's.
Exhibit 3: More dramatic lashes with Majolica Majorca's Lash King
Exhibit 4: ...with Lashem's Double Trouble Mascara. Love this much,  you get the drama, while it's  still easy to remove. ;-D
I have sensitive eyes. For some reason, they turn red and get irritated easily. That's mostly why I stayed away from eyelash curlers and to heavy eye makeup. A couple of months back, I consulted with my Ophthalmologist friend, I was given eye drops and advised to stay away from such irritants. It improved, but not fully. But the promise of the eyelash curler won, so I caved in. I bought. But to my earnest heart's desire, thankfully, it did not trigger the irritations. Because it's so easy to use, and very quickly delivers visible curls, see Exhibit 1. It's almost effortless. If you apply a bit more, you get those great dramatic lashes even more, even without mascara. And the curls hold all day, all night. True, it doesn't pinch the skin. That's my major turn-off from my eyelash curler before. For the price, I get a free refill as inclusion, it's a good deal, because I read that this mighty artillery has a superb life expectancy. *LoL Although, take note on the warnings and when to replace reminders. If so, it's all good. ;-D

Shu Uemura's Eyelash Curler friendly reminders on warnings and when to replace. It says 3 moths, most would say otherwise...years!  ;-D

Boo me, this is my first ever Shu Uemura's prized purchase, I might have to do some catching up pretty soon. So far, I like it. So pretty.

Affordable Luxury at Nuat Thai Libis

So good. Sometime ago I was invited to try out Nuat Thai in Libis. The promise was for a 2.5 hours spa time. Oh my! I love! That's got to be my longest massage time ever. The previous record went only for 2 hours. *LoL Although, spa time, probably not, because my other soiree allowed me to stay almost a whole day, but with only an hour dedicated to massage. Of course, being the spa junkie that I am, I was elated. So together with my plus one, my sister, we indulged!

Clockwise: Inside Nuat Thai Libis, Choice of Massage Oils,  Bath Towel Art...Swan Couple,  May the Buddha Bless You ;-D,   Aroma Oil Burner, Foot Scrub,  Herbal Ball. So nice! ;-D
Nuat Thai Libis is located in fron of Shopwise Libis. Located at the second floor, from it's cozy receiving room, the massage area inside looks surprisingly spacious. I like the dark dim lighting and the over-all ambiance. It's fancy enough.

Services and Rate. For that day of pampering, we were to enjoy Nuat Thai Signature Foot Massage (1 Hour) + Aromatherapy Massage with Herbal Balls (1.5 Hours). Source: Nuat Thai Official FB Page
Massage Rooms. Foot Massage Area. Floor Bed for Thai Massage. Regular Massage Bed. Massage Room with adjacent Shower Room.
First off, the royal washing of the feet. *LoL I love the foot bath + the scrub.
Nuat Thai Foot Massage time, I liked. The massage was done via a reclinable lounge chair. Again, let me just say, I like the dim conducive to sleep. The therapist assigned to me is a keeper! Yay! Lucky me, because every so often, I actually chanced upon not-so-good ones, in my mind I always say "never again!" *LoL  She could pull off the right pressure, I usually like mine hard. Plus, it's not hastily done. Although, it's your usual Thai Foot Reflex/Massage routine. For Php 250, totally worth it!
Aromatherapy Massage Time. I love. Aroma oil burner. The black door behind the bed is a shower room, just in case.
For the massage oil, I chose lavender. Oh wow, 1.5 hours of blissful pampering. And yeah, this was the best part.
Not one, but two herbal hot pad. I love. I had these with me the entirety of  2.5 hours, although, they were replaced to a new set after the first hour of foot massage. Herbal ball, I tried this before, and yes, must-try.  Massage powder, keeps the grease away. It's unscented, it's not grainy, it's easily absorbed.
Best routine ever...good pressure, the kneading and folding reminded me of my favored and unforgettable Balinese massage (and yes, all the way from Bali! ;-D), the routine also incorporated Shiatsu, Swedish, Thai, and what have you. I must say that the rhythmic tapping a la "karate chops" *LoL never felt so good. More often than not, I find these distracting. But my therapist was one powerful lady! She never faltered the whole 2.5 hours. The herbal balls were applied mid-way, the balls were heated, were patted and rubbed at the back. The whole routine was very soothing. For a Php 550 treat, I felt like in Bali! ;-D

So happy. With Sherly. ;-D
Here's the clincher, every so often it's still therapist-dependent regardless of the supposedly standard routine, no spa time is alike. I'm happy to say that my sister had a splendid time too. One fine day indeed! ;-D Thank you to Ms. Jo Tan and to Ms. Janine Go for the luxe experience.

Visit Nuat Thai Libis for that affordable luxury. Like it on Facebook.

Nuat Thai Libis is located at  2nd Flr, 90 E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave. (libis), across Shopwise and above RCBC and Allied Bank, 1110 Quezon City, Philippines

Why I Love Buying Gifts at Rustan's ;-D

Hello there! I've been awfully busy these days...Work. Party Planning. Tutoring. Korean Drama Marathons. Oh well, c'est la vie! ;-D Anyhow, here's a not-so-wordy post to kick off my week long web blogging hiatus.

Complimentary Gift-Wrapping Services at Rustan's Department Store.
The gift is for my son's classmate.

My destination of choice for gift buying is Rustan's. I love it before,  now...I love it a lot more! *LoL #LoveYourOwn
Of course, there are far more other reasons why I love buying gifts at Rustan's...brand assortment, superior customer service, are more than compelling enough. Plus the place is nice. This is not my first raving, see here more of how great it is Rustan's gift wrapping services! So pretty. It's Free! ;-D

The Late Box

Balikbayan Boxes are love, although technically, bittersweet, because it means that someone is sending them to you, so they live miles away. #Drama ;-D More or less, 9 out of 10 times, our relatives and friends from California use Atlas Shippers International. So far, Atlas delivers timely, be it from our previous Pampanga address. I think the quickest was about 18 days after pick-up form the sender. That's nice! Angeles City takes about 21 days, more or less. But this time around, to a Manila end point, it took about 32 days. Yes, it was still within the 35 days period, but my, it was rather frustrating that it arrived August 11 to their warehouse, was attempted to be delivered to us August 14, but because of traffic, (Hello! Manila Traffic is a way of life!), and not because of custom-related issues or even flooding that it didn't reach us. They waited 5 days to do so again! That's considering, we were doing our endless soirees of follow-ups here and at their US office! It's a matter of urgency because I need to finalize the party services I will be availing. Plus, I son was super excited, and was getting impatient, to think he was doing a count down based on the committed date of delivery to the shipper, August 14 or even earlier.

Box shipped via Atlas shippers International, Inc. It was officially picked up July 16, and we received it under our Ortigas Center, Pasig City address, August 19.
As a promotion of Atlas, a free Junior Box is included.
Uh Oh! A bottle of Jam broke!!! This was not the first time, last time a shampoo and a bubble solution fo Gazillion Bubble Maker, broke too. If it's a packaging related reason, or a box handling, I can't say for sure.
It's just sad when companies instead of improving, backslide on customer service. Please gear up! Delivery lead time is a key! Oh my, kaka-high blood! In fairness, I talked to a couple of customer service assistants, the first few calls were uneventful. The Thursday, my first irate follow-up, SA's did call me back asap, so I had hopes! I tried calling again, the second lady didn't call me back. Tsk! Tsk! So, when we're raging mad came Friday, and we found out that nothing was noted on how supposedly crazy mad we were, we vent out all our frustrations to the third lady. Oh my, I was seriously mad a la near Claudine Barretto raging mad. *LoL But she was okay, A for effort, so we calmed down a bit. And besides what can I do, I would not dare picking it up, knowing we paid for a Door to Door Delivery service. And if so, we should have done it the Monday if we really couldn't afford the wait. Anyhow, to appease us, I guess, they promised to do best effort Friday, and Saturday as the committed delivery date. They did delivered though...past 5pm. I work in an industry that key competency and competitive advantage are made because of delivery lead time. So it's a bit frustrating, when this company can actually capitalize on a better delivery lead time vs. others, but decided to forego it.  Oh well, this is me, ranting! I can't help it, I'm only human! *LoL

Now, on with the happy things, what's in a box?

Camouflage Theme Party Supplies from Party City and Candies/Chocolates Overload. Love, love, love! ;-D I shared this earlier on my FB Page
More Lovey Dove-ys for us! More Toiletries, and you ought to know I'm addicted to hoarding them! *LoL SPAM, never fails. Peanut Butters, Jams, and Jelly spreads. Mac and Cheese, my son's favorite! ;-D

In fairness, the boxes are here, finally! Thank goodness! I'm just saying that cargo shippers need to improve their customer service level. And oh, they need to invest on some GPS, or if not, use Google Maps, they keep saying that our Ortigas Center address is part of Rizal. Hello! Know your customer, keep your customer...the basic principle of selling! Basic is that there's should be a log of some sort of calls, queries, and follow-ups made by an account, so as to save everyone the trouble of retelling. Remember the emotional consideration on the bittersweetness of receiving a box that is at most time filled with hard-earned gifts of a family that is away from home, on how it should be an "Awwww..." moment, useless follow ups sadly ruin the moment! Oh well...still thankful for the boxes! ;-D

Camouflage Party Planning Updates: Theme Supplies, Venue, and Host ;-D

Hello. Sometime ago I posted about my son's upcoming birthday, with only about a month to go, I'm stressed out excited! Anyhow, the stress was mostly about the delay of the arrival of the Balikbayan  Box from the States, which took at most 30 plus days to arrive, the latest ever to date considering it's a Metro Manila end point, rant post here! With the delay, to date, I haven't finalized a balloon package to avail since I need to know what I have for decors. Naturally, I would like to request for some discounts or so, since I will be providing some of the materials. Although I already set my mind on one particular supplier, I just have to hear from her again.

Camouflage/Soldier Party Supplies bought from Party City. Wow! I'm so so excited! These were from the store, I was particular about Party City because there's a store near our relative, which is pretty accessible, and more workable vs. online shopping. And from the looks of things, she definitely had fun shopping! Bless her soul! ;-D
More Camouflage Theme Party Supplies...Candles, Favor Pack/Party Loot Bags, Invitations, Balloon Centerpiece.
Camouflage/Soldier Theme Plates, Cups, Meal sets, Tank Thank You Cards, Centerpiece Mother Balloons.
Candies and Chocolate Overload. For the loot bags, and candy station.
And now for the venue, and food...

Roofdeck Prestige Tower Ortigas Center with food by Chow Unlimited Corporation (in-house caterer). This was an actual setup when we visited, excuse the mop. *LoL We preferred this vs. One San Miguel's because it's more spacious, plus plus. ;-D
One San Miguel by Baby Nathan's Kitchen. Also, with Catering Trio. This party venue is nearer from our place, but the area is not as spacious.
Lucky, we were able to secure the venue for the actual birthday. Yay! Reservation was paid already. Although, we were hoping to delay it a bit, since we're hoping to have my hubby's family with us. Anyhow, great that they already confirmed to make it for that day too.

For the hosting, and other entertainment, I tried getting Ms. Jiggles the Balloon Lady, but she was already booked. From my hunting, I found Ms. Diane, although I only found a couple of reviews. But I talked to her a couple of times over the phone, and she sounds okay! ;-D

I'm now in need of a party cake, I liked someone a lot, but she's fully booked. So I might check out again Layers & Layers Cakes by Arlene since she's our go-to cakes in Ortigas Center from most of our parties. More importantly, I hope to hear form my first choice balloon supplier. I'm finalizing the balloon package, plus food carts, and entertainment. I will be back for more updates.

Any recommendations? Please do share. ;-D

Too Cute: Crayola Color Changing Scrubby

These are just too nice, and fyi, these are not for Chase...these are ours (mine & hubby)! Hello Couple's Bath Pouf! *LoL

Crayola Color Changing Scrubby a la Mesh Bath Pouf. Crayola is a brand we love, love, love. It's such a reliable brand...ever.  Some time ago,  we went Clark duty free shopping, this time at Parkson's. We found these. Hubby got the blue, mine is the purple. Sells for about a $1 (Php 42) each. We didn't get any for my our son, Chase, because you'll see later, he got an equally nice bath pouf. ;-D
Color Changing Scrubby. Just add warm water to change color. Add cool water to change back! That's just a nice add on! We're really after the brand reliability, plus the mesh sponge is compact, tightly secured in a bun, and the meshes are soft. We can't live without the comforts of hot showers. So yes, we can enjoy the color changing! ;-D ...The blue, turns white! ;-D
Mine. Purple turns blue. #Cute
One can never have too many bath poufs and shampoos, and conditioners, and body scrubs, and facial scrubs. ;-D Have more of these on the other part of my bathroom. You ought to know I hoard personal cleansing products. Hubby told me to get rid of those other bath poufs, the back scrubber and the loofah + sponge. I just don't have the heart yet. I rationalize by saying I'm still using those! *LoL
Recognize the Red Bath Pouf? Yes, that's none other than Disney Cars Lightning McQueen at Chase's service. ;-D He has a Tow Mater too. Now you know why we're keeping these cute color changing Crayola scrubby for ourselves. *LoL But of course, he wants his own color changing scrubby too, anyhow one can never have too many bath pouf. #The More The Merrier ;-D On a mommy note, these are such engaging bath mates for the kids. If you ever find it a bit challenging to make your kids love bath time, these might do the trick! ;-D

Red Dawn 2012

Hello everyone. While stalking Rotten Tomatoes' page for the release date of The Hunger Games, I chanced upon Red Dawn's trailer... and yay! So now, I can't wait for Thanksgiving 2012 for its screening date.

Red Dawn in theaters November 21, 2012.
This is a remake of the 1984 Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen. I've seen it! It's interesting. I can still remember most of it. But hear ye, hear ye, for this remake you have Thor and Peeta! *LoL Although this is Chris Hemsworth pre-Thor and Josh Hutcherson pre-Hunger Games. With two blockbuster hit makers on the bill, now it's definitely a best time to un-shelve this, as it finally gets a release date. It was initially slated for a November 2010 release date. Oh by the way, the movie also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, The Denny Duquette of Grey's Anatomy. Interesting indeed! How nice, all the nice guys in one movie! ;-D
Chris Hemsworth as Jed Eckert (played by Patrick Swayze on the previous film).
Josh Hutcherson as Robert Morris
More Josh Hutcherson (Go Peeta! ;-D)
Connor Cruise also stars on the movie. He's Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's son and not my crush. #FYI
I Thor-oughly love Chris Hemsworth, and I'm cheering for Peeta Mellark all the way, vs. Chris' younger brother Liam Hemsworth's Gale Hawthorne! #TeamPeeta So yes, this fangirl is all out supporting Red Dawn 2012. Anyhow, fawning aside to my boy loves and crushes, this time, the boys and girls will battle against North Korean invaders. This and that, the over-all plot is interesting enough.
...and the North Koreans attacked!
So there you have it, more movies to watch.

Photo Credits: Official Movie Poster (Google Image), all the rest are my personal screen captures from the movie preview.

Review: SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell Toner, Emulsion, and Essence

Annyeong! Allow me to dwell more on my daily skin care must-haves as aforesaid on my Korean Cosmetics Overloaded beauty care routine.  Anyhow, let me cut to the chase, this line from SkinFood is so, so good! Platinum eh? Just for perspective and objectivity, Seoul-ful addiction aside, La Prairie of Switzerland have a Platinum Collection, so there you have it, Platinum for the win! It's the rich man's gold, so they say. ;-D So this whole indulgence momentarily makes me feel uber rich! LoL*

SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell Toner (28,000 KRW or $25 USD) and SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell Essence (32,000 KRW or $28 USD). A friend based in Seoul (Mommy Wendy) thankfully got me these. Weird, there is an alarming big gap in the local store's price point vs. Seoul's, and yay, getting them from Seoul means more freebies and a lot of savings!
For alignment purposes, allow me to elaborate the Korean Skin Care Routine. On the basic, net of wash-off mask or mask sheet, after cleansing, first off comes the Toner + Emulsion + Serum/Essence + Cream/Gel. Relative to your skin type, the basics include Toner + Moisturizer (either Serum/Essence or a Cream/Gel). Emulsion to Serum to Cream is a progression of level of moisture and nourishment. The further you go into the regimen, the concentrated it gets. At least, that's how make sense of the whole intricacies.
My precious. ;-D SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell trial packs...toner, essence, cream, gift sets with emulsion, eye cream, Platinum Grape Cell Essential BB Cream (Review coming soon. Sample FOTD post here.)
SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell Toner 130ml. Product Description. Packaging. Love the pump. Love the transparent bottle. Love the a la wine cylindrical packaging. I like the light and refreshing scent.
Product Description: A premium toner containing visible platinum particles and grape cells that provide intensive firming treatment for aging skin.

To use: After cleansing, dispense an ample amount into the palm and smooth at the face in gentle rolling motion.

Grape Cell Story: Bourgogne is one of the best three wine producers in France-Bordeaux, Bourgogne, and Cotes du Rohone, know for the Gamay grapes. Extracted from Gamay grapes, our grape cells help regenerateskin cells, firming skin from the inside out.

Platinum Store: Platinum is one of the purest and rarest metals in the world. With excellent antioxidant effects, Platinum is used for Foods, Medical, Cosmetics, etc.

SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell Essence 45ml. Apply after the toner. Love the pump. Nay the opaque bottle. Similarly, it's light and pleasantly scented. Not the overpowering kind. The Essence is supposedly the light yet concentrated liquid cream.
Product Description: A premium anti-aging essence containing grape cells and platinum particles that brighten and firm aging skin from the inside out.

To use: After toner application, dispense an ample amount into the palm and apply onto the face in gentle upward and outward motions. Using both palms, pat and press gently onto the face for faster absorption.

Swatch. There are some bits of platinum particles, but when dispense and apply on the skin, dissipate.  The consistency of the toner is just right, not too watery, not too sticky. But is refreshing and not too sticky when applied. It's easily absorbed too. The essence is basically a fluid version of a face cream. The pricey 45ml should tell you that this needs to be used sparingly...a little goes a long way. Otherwise, it'll be too greasy. And you don't want that. It has a remarkable moisturizing power, that the absorption seems to take a while. So yes, again, a little goes a long way. And that little, delivers! ;-D
Me. Myself. I. Top photo: After toner. Bottom: Plus Essence.
SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell Emulsion. Prior to getting the full sizes, I was able to try the mini-gift sets with the Emulsion. I finished a couple of trial sets. The emulsion offers just the right moisturizing, net of the sticky feeling. It has a richer consistency than the Toner, but as you can see, it's not yet as flowing. But when applied, it's easily absorbed.  I liked it, except I'm not too fond of the after scent. Although, it's light, there's just a distinct after scent that lingers longer than the toner or the essence.
Depending on your skin type and relative to the weather, you can opt for the basics, skip the Emulsion, or the Essence/Serum, end it with the cream, or a combination thereof.  Personally, as aforesaid last time, for my day care routine with only the SkinFood Platinum Grape Cell in mind, if it's relatively colder or if I'll be in an A/C environment a la mall, I go Toner + Essence. If it's sunny, since I still have a couple of emulsions, I go for Toner + Emulsion + spot application for the Essence on my usual dry areas (side of my nose, and side of my mouth, which worsen post facial hair cream remover application). Again, for the nth time, let me reinforced that the essence is already very rich just as it is, so a litte goes a long way.

Overall, I'm more looking keen on keeping this line for my basic skin care routine, as I've said I think it's more suited for our local weather. As for the combination thereof, I'd probably buy a full size of the emulsion just to extend the life of the essence. I will still skip the cream and opt to go for the essence. The cream is priced similar to that of essence. I'm not just too fond of the tub form, I'd like dispensing via pump, it's more hygienic and economical even. This is an anti-aging line, hmmm...I'd like to go on a preventive mode, although I have already initial onset of skin aging like some wrinkles here and there! *LoL By the way, I'm 30ish! The nourishing and the moisturizing benefits of this line are realized. Although I think of the brightening effect as more of calming, vs. bleaching effect. But please take note, the line doesn't really keep me pimple-free every so often, so there's a need to incorporate every so often an anti-trouble line the likes of SkinFood Tea Tree facial wash and Innisfree's. Anyhow, net of sensitivities and hormonal changes, this line keeps me as flawless relative to my age. *LoL
